WORSHIP: LOVING GOD WITH ALL OUR HEART

The rich tradition of liturgical worship requires commitment from our community members to serve in different capacities.

Acolytes - acolytes are those who signify the beginning of worship by lighting the altar candles. At the end of the service, they also put the candles out. During the service, they assist the presiding minister as needed. Acolytes at St. Luke can be trained as young as 8 years old.

Altar Guild - The altar guild provides critical, behind-the-scenes support. They prepare the altar with proper linens, fill the lavabo bowl, and prepare the bread and wine for Holy Eucharist. After service, they properly and reverently remove the oblations and clean up the altar area.

Assisting Ministers - assisting ministers play the primary liturgical role of the traditional deacon, assisting the presiding minister with prayers and the Holy Eucharist.

Procession

Choir - no Lutheran Divine Service would be complete without a choir to provide musical support. The choir helps lead in congregational song, as well as singing appointed parts of the liturgy during choral services.

Crucifer - the crucifer leads the procession of ministers into the church, carrying a cross to signify the One in whose name we gather.

Greeters - greeters do just what their name implies: they greet people at the door, and assist newcomers by answering questions.

Kantor - kantors provide musical support by chanting parts of the liturgy. Kantors are generally used at St. Luke when the choir is unavailable.

Lectors - lectors read the appointed first and second lessons for the day.

Ushers - ushers help worshipers find vacant seats, provide them with a worship bulletin, and guides people to the altar for he reception of Holy Communion.

If you would like to serve during the worship service, please contact the church office to express your interest.
